1. Video Auditions Round (Preliminary)

Western Classical
Junior (Ages 13-16)
  • One Piece of the competitor's choice
  • Duration: Must be between 3-4 minutes.
  • Assessment will stop after after the upper time limit.

Category B

Western Classical
Senior (Ages 17 and above)
  • One Piece of the competitor's choice from standard Western Classical Repertoire.
  • Duration: Must not be more than 7 minutes.

Open Category

Jazz
Open Age
  • One piece of the competitor's choice from standard Jazz Literature
  • Duration: 3-5 minutes.

Open Category

Brillante Dreamscape
Open Age
One piece of less than 3 munutes by any composer prescribed in the following list:
  • Yiruma, Yanni, Ludovico Einaudi, Max Richter , George Winston, Yann Tierson, David Lanz, Jakub Metelka, Olafur Arnalds.
  • *Self – composed pieces are permissable. The piece must, however, be shared with the organisers before the video is submitted for approval (4 weeks before last date) with the Competition Officials.

2. Semi-Final Live Round

  • Duration: 2-5 minutes.
  • The audition piece will not be permitted in this round.

Category B

Western Classical
Senior
  • One piece of the competitor's choice from standard Western Classical Repertoire (inclusive of Modern and Contemporary Art Music composers).
  • Duration: 5-7 minutes.
  • The audition piece will not be permitted in this round.

Open Category

Jazz
Open Age
  • One performance of the competitor's choice from a Jazz Blues tune.
  • Duration: 5-7 minutes.

Brillante Prodigy
Open Age
  • The competitor must showcase his/her skill and musicality through the performance of any choice of music. Duration 2-5 minutes in length.

Open Category

Brillante Dreamscape
Open Age
  • A well selected piece by any of the composers mentioned above. Duration must be between 4-7 minutes. Audition piece is not permitted in this round.

3. Finale Live Round

Category A

Western Classical
Junior
  • One piece of the competitor's choice from standard Western Classical Repertoire (inclusive of modern composers).
  • Duration: 3-5 minutes.
  • The audition piece and Semi-Final round piece will not be permitted in this round.

Category B

Western Classical
Senior

Two pieces will be required for two rounds of performance.

The Technical Round

  • The competitor must prepare and perform a common piece specifically selected for this round.
  • The piece will be emailed once the Registration for the Competition is completed (personal form and fee payment).
  • Only the version emailed to the competitor will be allowed for the competition.
  • *Purpose : to Showcase the competitor’s technical ability and virtuosic delivery.

The Competitor's Choice Round

  • One piece of the competitor's choice from standard Western Classical Repertoire (inclusive of Modern and Contemporary Art Music composers)
  • Duration: Should be less than 10 minutes.
  • The audition piece and Semi-Final round piece will not be permitted in this round.

Jazz
Open Age
  • One jazz piece of the competitor's choice with a live drummer and bassist. Official drummer and bassist will be provided by the competition organizers.
  • Duration: Must not be more than 8 minutes.
  • The audition and semi-final pieces will not be permitted in this round.
  • It is encouraged that the competitors who proceed from the audition to the semi-final round provide their intended piece for the final round so that the official musicians can be prepared.
  • The organizers will facilitate in organizing one on-site practice session with the competitors. Onstage practice session will be available only for the finalists.
**Competitors are requested to adhere to the time limits given. Assessments will stop after the given time limit in each category.

  • The competitor must showcase his/her skill and musicality through the performance of any choice of music.
  • Duration 3-5 minutes in length.
  • The competitor cannot repeat the Audition or the Semi final rounds pieces in the thus round.

Open Age
  • A well selected piece by any of the composers mentioned above.
  • Duration must be between 4-7 minutes.
  • The Audition or Semi Final round pieces are not to be repeated in this round.
**Dress code: Any formal attire. No flip-flops or chappals allowed.

Video Recording and Submission Guidelines:

There are no restrictions as to where you film your performance – in a hall, at school, at your teacher's studio – wherever you have access to a quiet performing space and the appropriate instrument and performance props. You may ask someone to help you with the recording or with page turns. You can even have a group of people behind the camera if you enjoy working in the presence of a live audience!

Some quick tips when planning your recording:

  • Choose a quiet room without disruptions or background noise.
  • Make sure you’re not sitting in front of a light source which will turn you into a silhouette.
  • The camera should be placed to your right, capturing your right-side profile.
  • Place the camera 2-3 ft away from the instrument, so that your face profile, hands, and feet on the pedals are visible.
  • The maximum size for your video file is 1GB and your performance must be captured as one continuous take. If there is any evidence of editing then we will not be able to accept your submission.
  • Ensure your device has enough storage and battery before you begin.
  • Audio and video must be recorded simultaneously and no pre- or post-production techniques should be applied. A single external microphone may be used but multiple microphone set-ups are not permitted. Check sound levels to ensure the recording device captures the range of the instrument clearly, without any distortion.
  • You may record your video as an mp4 or MOV file. All submissions are to be done through Google Drive. Please ensure your sharing settings are correct (e.g., unlisted/public/accessible to anyone with the link) before sharing/submitting.
  • Rename your file with your registered name and your category (e.g. (name)-Classical-A)

Video submissions:

  • Classical Category A and B: All video submissions must be accompanied by a corresponding score sheet in PDF or an acceptable format in the same Google Drive folder.
  • Jazz: Video submissions are to be accompanied by the name of the piece and lead sheet in the same Google Drive folder.

Video Audition Submission Deadline: 15 July 2024 12:00 am IST. And remember - videos must be submitted as one continuous performance.
